Four important people are in the running to be the first dean of the new School of Data Sciences at Metropolitan University. The school will officially open on April 15, 2024. During this special day, there will be a big ceremony to welcome the new dean, and there will also be a party with important guests from the area.
The new dean will be in charge of a lot of money—$50 million—for research and work with 27 technology companies.
The selection group started with 142 people who wanted the job, but they picked four finalists. Each of these finalists has an average of 18.5 years of experience in data science. Most of them have advanced degrees, and many have received big research grants recently.
The new school is a big investment of $175 million. It will have space for 1,200 students and 85 teachers in three buildings that are very large. The school is already working on the classes it will offer, and 48 new classes have been approved.
They also plan to open 12 special research centers when the school starts.
The April opening is planned to match the university's 100th birthday and the finishing of the main building. The new dean will also help find 35 new teachers and set up six new graduate programs that will start in fall 2024.
