Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital is a big hospital in Pune, India. It has 900 beds and has helped many people for a long time.
But now, the hospital is being checked by the government because of some serious problems. These problems started on September 15, 2023, after a woman named Mrs. Priya Sharma, who was 32 years old, got very sick and died. The doctors and nurses didn’t follow important rules that help keep patients safe.
When Mrs. Sharma came to the hospital, some important machines didn’t work correctly. The staff didn’t use backup plans that they should have used. A report from the Maharashtra State Health Commission found that many machines weren’t taken care of, and some workers didn’t know how to help patients who were very sick.
Also, there were problems with the bills. Auditors found that the hospital charged people too much money, about 28% more than what’s normal in 156 cases since July 2023. Because of this, the hospital has started checking itself and has sent home three senior workers for now.
The Maharashtra Medical Council wants the hospital to make big changes. They need to improve how they check on patients, retrain their workers, and have audits every three months.
The hospital must send reports every 30 days to show they’re improving. If they don’t follow these rules, they could lose their license and pay a fine of more than ₹50 lakh.
