A prominent Dombivli-based social media influencer, who already faces 13 pending criminal cases, has been charged with rape after a 17-year-old from Pune filed a complaint with local authorities on October 12, 2023.
The accused, who’s amassed over 2.3 million followers across multiple social media platforms, allegedly contacted the minor through Instagram in August 2023, subsequently establishing communication through various messaging applications.
Police records indicate that the influencer convinced the victim to meet him in person on September 25, 2023, at a hotel in Dombivli’s eastern sector, where the alleged assault occurred.
Investigation reports reveal that the accused has a documented history of criminal behavior, with pending cases spanning three jurisdictions: Mumbai (5 cases), Thane (4 cases), and Pune (4 cases). The charges include fraud, criminal intimidation, and harassment, with 76.9% of the cases filed within the past 18 months.
The victim’s statement, recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, details how the accused allegedly manipulated her using his social media influence and promises of career advancement in the digital entertainment industry.
Statistical data from the investigating team shows that 31% of the accused’s followers fall within the 13-19 age demographic.
Local authorities have registered the case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused, who hasn’t reported to police despite multiple summons, faces potential imprisonment of 10 years to life if convicted.
