How long can workers stay calm when their jobs keep asking too much? Maharashtra's State Minister Rajesh Tope talked about this in a news meeting. He said many people are unhappy with long working hours and that companies should be more responsible.
A survey said that 73% of workers in Maharashtra feel very tired and stressed from their jobs in the last year. This is a big problem because complaints about stress at work have gone up by 28% since 2021.
Also, fewer workers are happy at their jobs, with a drop of 15.3%.
The Minister also mentioned that many labor unions, which are groups that help workers, are getting louder. 47 groups, which have 2.8 million workers, said they'll take action if their work conditions don't get better.
The government wants to help by making new rules. These rules would limit how much extra work companies can ask for, help workers share their problems, and punish companies that don't follow the rules.
The Minister warned companies that they've 60 days to fix these problems or face penalties. New rules may include help for mental health, checks on how happy workers are every few months, and fines for companies that break the rules.
These rules will affect about 12,463 companies in Maharashtra and around 4.2 million workers in different jobs. The government plans to share more details about these rules soon, and they'll start in early 2024.
