The Maharashtra Pollution Control Authority (MPCA) took strong action against Fariyas Resort in Mumbai. They found 47 different problems that hurt the environment between January and September 2023.
The resort had big issues with trash and dirty water. They let out too much waste, more than what's allowed, especially during the busy tourist time. The MPCA checked the resort and found they weren't following the rules. They didn't keep their cleaning systems working properly and made changes without permission.
Out of the problems, 68% were about dirty water that wasn't treated, 23% were about trash not being managed well, and 9% were about air pollution. The resort managers had been given many warnings since March 2023 but didn't fix the problems in time.
The MPCA said the resort must stop any bad actions right away and pay a fine of ₹2.7 crore. They've 45 days to follow all the rules, or they could be closed down. This action is part of new rules to protect the coast that started in 2022.
Tests by other groups showed that local sea life is in trouble because the water is too dirty. The MPCA will make the resort install systems to check the pollution all the time and check on them every three months for the next two years. This means they'll keep a close eye on hotels by the coast.
