Workers have started building two new lifts at Pune Railway Station. This is an important upgrade that will help about 150,000 people who use the station every day. The project costs ₹2.4 crore and will make it easier for everyone, especially older people, people with disabilities, and those carrying heavy bags.
The new lifts can hold 13 people each and will be placed at platforms 1 and 6. They'll connect to the foot over bridge, helping passengers move between platforms. These lifts will have safety features like emergency intercoms and backup power, so they'll still work even if there's a power cut.
The lifts will go up and down at a speed of 1 meter per second and use special motors that save 30% more energy than regular lifts. The team in charge will check the lifts every 45 days to make sure they work well and are safe to use.
The railway workers say they'll try not to disturb passengers while building the lifts. Most of the work will happen at night, from 11 PM to 5 AM, when fewer people are at the station. They plan to finish the lifts in 120 working days, including testing them to make sure they're safe.
These lifts will help people move between platforms faster, saving about 65% of the time during busy hours when many people are at the station. This project is part of a big plan by the Ministry of Railways to improve 100 major train stations in India by 2024.
