Purandar Airport Project: District Collector Asks MIDC to Deposit Funds

The Purandar Airport Project is a big plan to build a new airport about 50 kilometers from Pune, Maharashtra. This new airport will help make travel easier by taking some of the busy traffic away from the current Lohegaon Airport. The District Collector asked the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to pay for buying the land needed for this project. This is an important step to start building the airport. The first part of the project is expected to cost around ₹2,000 crore.

The new airport will need a lot of land, about 2,832 hectares, which is spread over seven villages in Purandar. The MIDC is in charge of planning this new airport, which will have two runways. The airport will be built to handle both passengers and cargo, with plans to serve 20 million passengers each year by 2030.

People who own land where the airport will be built will get paid fairly according to a law. The payment will be between ₹12 and ₹15 for every square meter of land. The District Administration has finished measuring 95% of the land and has set up a way for landowners to ask questions and share their problems.

The construction of the airport is expected to start in 2024 and be finished by 2028. The airport will have modern systems, big terminal buildings, and good facilities to help with ground handling. This project aims to make Pune a key place for air travel and help meet the growing need for flights in the region.
