The Pune Metro has some new train routes that are ready to go from Ramwadi to Wagholi and from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk. These routes got a “yes” from the state government in March 2024.
But there are five more routes waiting for approval from the central government. This is important because it can take a long time to get the green light, which could slow down the Metro’s growth.
Local MP Muralidhar Mohol said that these extra routes are almost approved at the central level. The Pune Municipal Corporation has done its job by giving the needed approvals, showing that they want to speed things up.
If the central government takes too long to approve these routes, it could delay the construction by three to four years. This means the Metro mightn’t be able to help more people who need to travel and could lead to fewer riders on the current routes.
People who use the Metro every day say that new routes aren’t just nice to have, but very important for a good public transport system. The Metro needs to connect many different areas and help all kinds of people.
