Pune is a big city in India, and it has fewer serious crimes now than in 2020. But some places in Pune still have a lot of certain types of crime. The Pune Police found 2,576 places where crimes happen a lot. They're using special plans to stop these crimes and help the community.
The police found that 892 places have many thefts, 784 places have traffic problems, and 498 places have street harassment. There are also 402 other places where crimes like cybercrime, drug issues, and money fraud happen. To understand where these crimes happen, the police used special maps and looked at three years of crime reports.
They noticed that 43% of these crime spots are near busy bus and train stations. Also, 28% are in busy shopping areas. Most crimes happen at night, especially between 8 PM and 2 AM.
To make the city safer, the police added 1,200 extra officers in these areas. They set up 24-hour cameras in 486 important places and added 892 new CCTV cameras. Police cars will patrol more often, and they can reach places quickly, usually in 7.4 minutes when needed.
The police also started using smart technology to help predict where crimes might happen. Since they began using this technology in early 2023, crimes have gone down by 31% in the areas they watched closely.
