Pune 76-Year-Old Woman Found Dead With Burn Injuries in Kothrud Flat

A 76-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Kothrud, Pune, on Tuesday morning. Her neighbors became worried because they noticed it was very quiet in her house, which was usually busy. The woman’s name was Mrs. Anjali Deshmukh. When the police came to check, they saw she’d bad burn injuries on her body. Now, the police are trying to find out what happened to her.

This sad event has made people think more about how we care for older people in Pune. In this city, about 12 out of every 100 people are older than 65 years. Many of them, about 47%, live alone. This shows that we need to make sure older people are safe and check on them regularly.

The police collected evidence from Mrs. Deshmukh’s home and are looking at video footage from nearby cameras to see what happened. They believe she might’ve died between 9 PM on Monday and 6 AM on Tuesday.

So far, the police have talked to 12 neighbors and people who work in her building. Mrs. Deshmukh lived alone on the third floor for eight years after her husband passed away. The police, led by Senior Inspector Rajesh Patil, are looking into many possibilities, including if someone hurt her.

The Pune Police are asking everyone to be careful and report anything strange. They’re also planning to improve their program that keeps track of older people living alone in the city.
